The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks… This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price… (Goodreads)

My Thoughts: One word — Amazing. though there are parts that are not that great but the good parts outweigh the bad parts. The first two books is more typical high school drama. With all the snotty people and cliques. In this short little installment of the Vampire Academy series, it was action-packed. There are parts where things were slow and calm then before you know it the climax comes rushing in and honestly speaking, I didn’t read all the words because I couldn’t contain the excitement and I had to know what happens next. So from now on its all going to be spoilers.

So first off, Rose and Mason dating. In the previous book Lissa told Rose to consider dating to keep her mind off thinking about certain stuff like DimItri. And yes Mason was not annoying kind of nice but genuine kind of nice towards Rose. His just so sweet and he brings out the nice part of her. But sadly, he died. Why? him. Even if they couldn’t be a couple, he would be a great friend for Rose but he didn’t want their relationship to be just that.

Secondly, Lissa found out that she’s not the only spirit user. On their trip Idaho there is this frivolous royal ( I forgotten what’s his name) who was able to keep the nightmares and emotional stress that comes with it in control by consuming alcohol and smoking. And in the trip he found out that Lissa was one and they were sharing what they could do. So now we know that Lissa is not alone and there’s one living example of not needing to turn in Strigoi in order to be sane.

Thirdly, we get to meet Rose mum. She’s a more self-controlled version of Rose and not swearing most of the time and also less impulsive. Her mom is one of the few dhampire women who chose to be a guardian instead of raising kids or a blood whore. Although the interactions of Rose with her mum are rough, Rose getting a black eye with a fight with her mum, Rose accusing of her mum not not caring enough for her. But their relationship got better when Rose cleared things with her mum.

Fourthly, Rose successfully killed two Strigois even before graduating. Suddenly she became the star student. However, she learnt that killing Strigoi ain’t that cool. And her killing the two Strigoi, reminds her of Mason who was killed because of the Strigoi. And it was she who tipped him off the location. And she blamed herself for doing so and said that if she havent told him, he would’t have died. It was kinda sad, her first successful kill of Strigoi reminds her of her friend’s death.

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars
