Summary(Goodreads): It’s springtime at St. Vladimir’s Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since making her first Strigoi kills, Rose hasn’t been feeling quite right. She’s having dark thoughts, behaving erratically, and worst of all… might be seeing ghosts.

As Rose questions her sanity, new complications arise. Lissa has begun experimenting with her magic once more, their enemy Victor Dashkov might be set free, and Rose’s forbidden relationship with Dimitri is starting to heat up again. But when a deadly threat no one saw coming changes their entire world, Rose must put her own life on the line – and choose between the two people she loves most.

My Thoughts:

Shadow kiss is a continuation of Frostbite but not an immediate one. So basically in this book as the title implies Shadow Kiss, we are going to know more about the shadow-kissed. In the beginning Rose saw Mason’s ghost or hallucination. She wasn’t very sure as it was snowing and she was outdoors. Also, the dhampir students have a six week long assignment where the teachers will stage Strigoi attacks and they are supposed to protect their assigned royal. Surprisingly, Rose wasn’t assigned to Lissa which is what everyone expected. Instead she was assigned to Christian whom she unwilling. So knowing Rose won’t accept as it is, and she asked if the teachers made a mistake and they told her that she has to be able to work with other royals as well. Dimitri also told her that Victor will be on trial which was unexpected because he endangered Lissa’s life. I too felt puzzled but that was the Moroi’s law. He also told her not to tell anyone about it. She was also told that hers and Lissa’s presence is not asked which angered her as they were the main victims. Knowing Rose, she pleaded Dimitri to persuade the higher-ups to permit them to attend the trial. Adrian being annoying continues to bug Rose. He also practices spirit with Lissa which makes Christian jealous. Although I don’t really liked Christian but at that point in time, I felt for him. Closer to the trial date, Rose and Lissa were told to pack their stuff as they are going to Court for Victor’s trial. Which was good news for them, and the person who pulled the stings was Adrian. During the flight, Rose had a terrible headache which was gone when she touched down. And Queen Tatiana requested to meet Lissa then followed by Rose. OMG the moments with her is so constricting. And her treatment towards Rose is unacceptable. I mean she don’t even know her and assumes who Rose is from hearsays and rumours. I thought she shouldn’t be so shallow to stoop to such stuff. And then we finally get to meet Ambrose, he’s a special. (I’m not going to spoil you) From the description he’s hot. Lissa and Rose whet for tarot reading and when Dimitri came to fetch them he also got his. On the plane Rose had her headaches again. But this time round much worse as she saw the people she knew who passed on. And it was so bad she was sent to the school’s infirmary. She finally gave in and said she saw Mason. And the doctor concluded that she will have counselling and have her week long assignment shortened. Adrian also starts to see how the bond affects Rose. When he was practising spirit with Lissa, he saw how the aura literally jumped from Lissa to Rose. And he concluded that maybe how Lissa is sane and now Rose is experiencing the craziness Lissa had before in the first book.  Rose also came up with her own theory. When Christian went to feed on Alice, Rose talked about ghosts. Alice said that wards blocked out the non-living meaning the undead and also the dead. Rose realised when she was in the Court she didn’t see any ghosts. But when she was in the air she experienced it. In school she has occasional sightings. And that’s when she starts asking Dimitri about the school’s wards. But Dimitri said that the school’s wards are reinforced every fortnight. This is when things start getting fast and I mean real fast. We also have trouble makers who messed with Christian – Jesse and Ralph. They said that Adrian was eventually going to marry Lissa which made Christian pick up a fight with Ralph. And at that very same time, Lissa was tortured by Jesse and his minions (those who were part of his group). OMG they’re so immature. I felt like punching him in the face. That’s when the Strigoi attacked. Rose and Christian practically kicked their asses. Christian using fire to distract them while Rose staked them, it happened all too quickly. It took me quite a while to digest. I thought that everything was fine but no. Eddie was taken and so were a few others both Moroi and Dhampirs. Rose being rose instigated that the guardians rescue them and of course with the help of Mason. And yes quite a number was saved while some guardians didn’t make it. In the last few chapters, it was so drama that I cried. I mean really drama. It happens when you’re attached to the characters and you really felt for them. This was the first time. I think it takes a lot to make me read something and then cry.

Rating: 5/5 (cause I cried)

NOOOOOOO! Why Dimitri of all people and Rose is going to kill him cause he rather be dead than be a Strigoi. NOOOO, it’s only the third book and it seems like all hope is lost. I really don’t know how the plot is going to be like in the next book. And I have no idea. So I’m just going to dive right in with no knowledge or whatsoever. And when Dimitri confessed that he really loved Rose. It was so touching and sweet at the same time. I mean things are getting better although their duties came first. But why of all people did Dimitri turn Strigoi. It’s a huge blow.
